Drivers in Norman are safer thanks to changes at a once crash-prone intersection.
At the intersection of East Rock Creek Road and 48th Avenue Northeast, a cross stands to remember the life of a little girl lost at this intersection, and shows just how dangerous it used to be.
After requests from residents, the City of Norman says East Rock Creek Road and 48th Avenue Northeast were converted from a two-way stop to a four-way stop in July of 2023.
With all cars coming to a complete stop, not one crash has been reported.
Norman leaders are welcoming residents to come to them for change on the roads.
Norman Transportation Engineer David Riesland said resident comments can be very helpful to his department.
"Don't keep them to yourself. Reach out and tell us. We can’t see everything. Most of the time, citizens are our eyes on things like this, so if they tell us, then we can act on it," Riesland said.
The city says it’s working on several requests from residents right now, but no matter where you live let this intersection be an example of what speaking up can do for your community.
