Oklahoma Man Visits France To Commemorate 80th Anniversary Of D-Day Landings

Thursday marks the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, often referred to as D-Day, and one Oklahoman is making his way to France to commemorate the sacrifice of those who fought there.

Many veterans are returning to the beaches in northern France on Thursday, but Jack Corbin from Jones, Oklahoma, a man with a long military legacy in his own family, said it is important to reflect on the history.

"I just think it's important that we look back and recognize the sacrifices that previous Americans have made," Corbin said. "When we're going through hard times now, we can kind of look back and see, we've gone through things before that have been really rough, we can get through anything now."

Corbin said in addition to historical importance, commemorating the event helps people today honor their family members who lived through it.

"It's important for young people to turn back on history and remember and honor our grandparents and great-grandparents," Corbin said. "When we're older and it's our turn, we can step up to the challenge and provide for our kids."

In addition to the many veterans arriving in France, several world leaders, including President Joe Biden, will also be in attendance.
