Oklahoma City Museum Of Art Announces New Exhibit Honoring Hollywood Costume Designer

A new exhibit opening soon at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art will feature pieces honoring the work of Edith head, a Hollywood costume designer with a decades-long career.

Richard Bruner, the museum's store manager, said the exhibit opens to the public on Saturday, and is expected to bring people from across the country.

"Edith Head was Hollywood's costume designer from the 1930s, roughly to the 1970s," Bruner said. "What you'll see is over 70 of her costumes on mannequins, we also have her sketches, her day wear and three of her Academy Awards."

As for the costumes themselves, Bruner said they stretch across a wide portion of Hollywood history.

"We're talking about Lana Turner, Bob Hope, Natalie Wood, Grace Kelly," Bruner said. "We've got some beautiful things from Hitchcock films, it is so interesting seeing the size of these actors."

Bruner said the museum is holding a members-only event on Friday, but the collection will be available after that, and for the whole summer the museum will be showing films some of Head's work was featured in at the museum's theater.
