The search for missing OCPD Officer Greyson Fox ended after he was found dead Tuesday morning, according to Oklahoma City Police.
Fox was identified by police on Tuesday afternoon.
OCPD said the department received a call at the lake at around 6 p.m. on Monday, reporting a man overboard.
Once on scene, Oklahoma City Fire Department officials said they were told four people were on a boat when two of them fell into the water.
The passengers were able to retrieve one of the overboard passengers but lost contact with the other, an adult male, who never resurfaced.
Dive teams used sonar technology to search the lake. Though they normally suspend a search overnight, they felt it would be safe to continue.
"Typically, we'll stop recovery operations for the safety of our divers," OKCFD Shift Cmdr. Jim Williams said. "But with the weather like it is, nice and calm, we may continue throughout the night."
Search teams found Fox around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
OCPD shared on social media Tuesday the news of Fox's passing, noting that he was off-duty at the time. OCPD shared that Fox started the academy in August of 2023.
Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt shared his statement on Tuesday:
"Greyson Fox’s greatest public legacy is his dedication to public service. That legacy is rivaled by the joy he brought to many as a beloved son, brother & friend. He will be deeply missed by our city & we grieve with the Fox family. Please keep them in your thoughts & prayers."
