Ten Scouts In The Same Oklahoma Troop Achieve Eagle Rank

Nationally, only four percent of young men who start scouting reach the honor of Eagle Scout, but those statistics don’t typically apply to Troop 120.

“We expect a lot from them and they haven’t failed to deliver yet ,” said Troop 120 Scout Master Matt Jackson.

Jackson has been scout master for troop for 20 years, and in that time he has had tremendous success.

“This last batch puts me at over 100 Eagle Scouts,” said Jackson.

Eagle Scout, the highest honor a young man can achieve in scouting. An honor that takes years of commitment and focus.

“As an Eagle Scout if you were to go into the military, you actually join at a higher pay grade just having earned the rank of eagle. It helps when they go into college admission boards, when they get into the work force,” said Jackson.

With all the years of success, this last group of scouts was significantly special.

“We just recently had ten boys earn that rank of eagle,” said Jackson.

Ten young men, all from the same troop, all receiving the highest honor in scouting, all in the same year.

“It takes a lot, I mean I’ve been scouting since I was in kindergarten and I got my Eagle Scout right before my eighteenth birthday,” said Troop 120 Eagle Scout Andrew Elder.

After all the years of commitment the honor means everything to these young men

“It means you’re a hard worker, you help the community,” said Andrew De Keratry, Eagle Scout with Troop 120.

“The one lesson that impacted me is don’t be afraid to ask for help, there are things that you just don’t know and it’s better to ask people that have been through it that know what they are talking about,” said Troop 120 Eagle Scout, Collin Lipps.

It is standards the young men will live by for the rest of their lives

“A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent,” said De Keratry.

“We expect them to maintain the three things that we teach them, duty to God, family and country,” said Jackson.
