Sharp reactions coming in from Oklahoma's GOP leaders. With some questioning President Biden's ability to lead the country others including Senator James Lankford expressed their lack of faith in the Democratic Party as a whole.
While much of the public's concerns are centered around Biden's age or mental capacity, Senator Lankford said the real issues at hand are the president's policies.
Policies that Lankford said would go on to become the legacy of both Biden and the modern Democratic Party.
“There’s certain legacy ideas that have come up and what the Democratic Party continues to be able to push away from working people, to be able to push away from non-college educated, to be able to push away from higher energy prices, saying we're going to deal with climate change so we don’t care how high the prices are at the pump, those become legacy issues when you stop caring about people and what the cost of living is and what they can afford,” said U.S. Senator James Lankford.
U.S. Rep. Stephanie Bice extended her criticism to Vice President Kamala Harris, Biden's likely replacement in the race, saying
"Reminder ... Vice President Harris is in charge of securing the southern border."
Meanwhile, other lawmakers expressed concerns with President Biden's ability to carry out his current term, much less a second.
Following Sunday’s announcement, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin, U.S. Rep. Josh Brecheen, and U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern , issued statements saying the President should resign or be removed from office immediately.
Senator Mullin said in part "If Joe Biden is unfit to run for re-election, he is unfit to carry out his term."
Congressman Hern echoed the senator's statement saying "For the good of the country, Joe Biden should resign immediately."
Congressman Brecheen agreed, going on to say, "Whoever is the Democrat nominee is going to have a tough time defending the Biden-Harris record."
Senator Mullin, along with other Congressional Republicans, are also pushing to invoke the 25th Amendment to forcibly remove Biden from office.
