New details were released in an unsolved northeast Oklahoma City double murder investigation.
Police say that a man and woman were shot to death at the Sooner Haven apartments on July 28. No arrests have been made in the case.
Homicide investigators noted in a search warrant that eight spent shell casings were found inside the apartment, and they swabbed for DNA. Investigators found other small items possibly belonging to the victims.
Camera footage from 33-year-old Kermit Camel's family's apartment showed the final hours of his life. Police said Camel and an unidentified woman were killed inside an apartment at the Sooner Haven complex last Sunday. Camel's father Kermit Spurlock did not know the woman his son was with.
“I would like to pray for her too,” said Kermit Spurlock, the victim’s father. “I never seen the lady. I asked questions about her, and they told me they couldn’t give me the information.”
Spurlock also waits for answers on who may be responsible for the deaths. The investigation is ongoing but difficult due to a camera outage at the complex. The Oklahoma City Housing Authority confirmed the 44 cameras on the property were not working the night of the murders.
“I’m really frustrated but I’m trying to hold my cool and trying to get on with my activities,” said Spurlock.
Spurlock now prepares to lay his son to rest and thanked everyone who has been there for his family.
“My family appreciates everything that everybody has done with the donations and the funds that helped bury my son,” said Spurlock. “I thank everyone from my heart and God bless you all.”
Spurlock said investigators interviewed his son's wife and were told she was ruled out as a suspect.
