Dominique Franks feels right back at home in Tulsa. The former Tulsa Union star went on to play at OU in 2006 and was a member of the 2008 team that played for a national championship before being drafted in the fifth round by Atlanta. Now he finds himself coaching football at the D1 level.
Franks joined the Tulsa staff in 2023 as a defensive quality analyst before being promoted to cornerbacks coach in February 2024.
Why is TU the right spot for Franks to start his career coaching in college? "I played here in high school, won a state championship here," said Franks. "I moved here in 8th grade, graduated high school. This is like my second home. It's a match made in heaven so far."
Playing at multiple levels has left an impact on Franks, as he now understands how important it is to have an impact on younger players.
"I just want to help as many people as I can. They need someone like me that already made my mistakes and try to teach them the mistakes that I made so they don't make them."
Practice continues for the Golden Hurricane as they prepare for the season opener against Northwestern State on Aug 29.
