A retired financial advisor hosts a free financial literacy workshop for low-income Oklahomans.
The organizer says she'll cover two topics each week of her course and says these will be tools you can use for the rest of your life. Louise Short is hosting six financial literacy workshops and will launch her second one this week.
Short is a retired financial advisor but wants to continue helping people by teaching them about the importance of financial literacy. Short says she is concerned about the low credit scores in Oklahoma, which she says is ranked 5th lowest in the country. She also says several zip codes in Tulsa are far below the state average.
Short says one common mistake people make is not tracking their spending. These workshops are designed to provide people with a supportive environment where they can learn from their mistakes and work toward financial improvement.
“I felt like I had to do something about it, and I have 37 years of knowledge, I don’t want to lose that and why can’t I give that back to my community?” Short said.
The second workshop will be this Saturday and will cover topics such as debt, student loans, and purchasing a car.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, August 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kindle-Whittier Library.
Attendees must RSVP to Louise@LouiseShort.com or 919-928-5110.
