The Comets are coming off a season where they finished undefeated in district play, the first time since 2018, before losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs to Bishop McGuinness. Coach JJ Tappana and the Comets lost 26 seniors from that team but is excited for the class trying to replace them.

"Chomping at the bit," says Tappana. "When you have a big class like that, a lot of kids get left out the younger classmen, so this is finally their time and they are excited for it."

During this time of the year one side of the ball or the other could be a little ahead of the other.

"Defensively we are a little ahead, but offensively a little behind, so we gotta get caught up."

One position to keep an eye on this season is at quarterback. The Comets have an ongoing competition at quarterback with Jack Taylor and Gavin Nichols.

Tappana sees differences in both, but knows it will take a combination, "we will use them both and together we will make one really dominate guy."

Bishop Kelley opens the season on Sept. 9 at home vs Bishop McGuinness in a rematch of last years playoff game.
