One man is behind bars after an overnight officer-involved shooting in Bricktown that sent three people to the hospital.
Oklahoma City police officers happened to be nearby Saturday night when a suspect began shooting into a crowd of people at Sheridan and Oklahoma Avenue in Bricktown.
It all started around 2 A.M., which is closing time for several clubs in the Bricktown area.
"At this time, they heard gunshots and there was a large group of people right there in the intersection," Captain Valerie Littlejohn with OCPD said.
She says the officers nearby ran to the area and saw a suspect shooting into that crowd of people.
The suspect shot three people in the crowd before running from the scene.
"The suspect turned, had a gun, and at that time officers discharged their weapons towards that suspect. They missed him and that suspect continued to run, dropping the gun eventually," Littlejohn said.
Police say the suspect ran for several blocks before officers finally arrested him.
At this time, police are uncertain what led up to the shooting.
"I don't know if it was a fight or just some sort of disturbance," Littlejohn said.
Additionally, the two officers who fired at the suspect have been placed on administrative leave.
"Any time there is an officer-involved shooting we put them on administrative leave during that investigation," Littlejohn said.
Police say the three people who were hurt were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
