On Wednesday, the Southeastern Conference introduced new tiebreaking procedures for the 2024 SEC Championship Game, the first season without divisions since 1991.
To resolve ties for Championship Game spots, the following criteria will be used in order:
If a tie for second place occurs and a clear Conference champion is determined, the champion will host the Championship Game, and tiebreakers will determine its opponent.
If two teams are tied for first place, both will qualify for the Championship Game, and seeding will be decided through tiebreakers, determining home/away status.
The 2024 SEC Championship Game is set for Saturday, Dec. 7, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. It has been the most-watched conference championship nationally for 15 of the past 16 seasons, with the 2023 game averaging 17.5 million viewers.
