A pair of small businesses in Tulsa are bringing knitting and crafting to the movies.

The Urban Acres and Scissortail Knits are hosting "Knit at Night" on Monday, August 26, at B&B Theaters Tulsa Starworld 20.

"We have rented out a theater, we have got seats for about 100 people, and we are watching 'You've Got Mail,'" said Sallie Dale, founder of The Urban Acres.

Her business started out on Etsy in 2019.

"I had discovered punch needle, really enjoyed it, could not find a kit that I liked, so I took it upon myself to create kits," said Dale.

A punch needle is a type of embroidery that uses a special tool to create loops of yarn in fabric.

"I say if you can hold a pencil, you can do punch needle," Dale added.

The hobby took off during the pandemic and has not slowed down since.

In her search for hand-dyed yarn for her punch needle projects, Dale found Scissortail Knits owned by brother and sister-in-law team Ryan and Bekah.

"I saw that they had started dyeing yarn, and I just thought, I wonder if they would be open to dyeing rug wool," said Dale.

Their yarn is available for purchase on her website https://theurbanacres.com/ and at https://scissortailknits.com/.

All three decided to work together on "Knit at Night" to connect Tulsa's fiber arts community.

"We only have one knitting store left in Tulsa, which is wonderful, but there are a lot of people who enjoy crafting and want to get involved in a community, but they do not necessarily know how," Dale continued saying, "My hope is that you would meet someone or meet a group and be able to tag in with them and this can just spread to the community further."

Doors for "Knit at Night" open at 6 p.m., and the movie starts at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a current knitting, crochet, punch needle, or embroidery work in progress.

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased here. All attendees will go home with a goodie bag with a stick and stitch kit, limited edition mini yarn skein, and other craft items.
