Tulsa County Election Board began its recount of the 2024 Tulsa Mayoral Election on Thursday.
The candidate Brent VanNorman filed for a recount after coming in third. The results showed Monroe Nichols receiving 18,729 votes, Karen Keith with 18,457, and VanNorman with 18,019.
During a hearing on Thursday, a judge ordered the recount which is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. The recount is happening at the Tulsa County Election Board's future home, just off I-44 near 11th Street.
In an interview with Dave Davis on News On 6, he discussed the reasons behind his decision to request a recount.

Personnel returned to collect the ballots immediately after the judge ordered the recount and started the recount around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
The recount would continue until 7 p.m. at the latest and then begin again on Friday at 9 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. If they are in the middle of counting a precinct, it will continue until they finish. The election board said they will break for the weekend and continue the recount every day until it's done.
The recount will be done precinct by precinct. If the recounted results differ, the reason must be recorded immediately.
If the results are the same, they will only break to print new Official Certification Reports. News On 6 spoke with VanNorman, who said his supporters encouraged the recount.
“We trust the system, and we’re hopeful," VanNorman said. "We’re not unrealistic. We realize most recounts are not successful, but we are hopeful in this one, and we just want to let it play out."
The election board says a staff of about 40 to 50 workers will be used for this recount, and once the recount is over, it will be the final decision.
