The Tulsa Health Department's 'Children First' program is designed to make life a little easier for new mothers.

Shelbie Sepulveda recently graduated from the program with her son. She was given a registered nurse to work with her for free.

During her two and a half years, she benefited from parenting resources like CPR courses.

She said the food programs have been helpful, so she never had to worry about not having enough food for her son.

Since joining the program, Sepulveda said great things have happened for her, including getting a more stable job and now having transportation.

Sepulveda told News On 6 that without it, she doesn’t know where she and her son would be.

“It helped me to not be afraid when it came down to having him because again, a lot of questions are answered that aren’t normally answered and aren’t normally talked about," Sepulveda said. "And you can ask those questions with your nurse, and it helps a lot with your confidence in raising your child.”
