A new health insurance company is expanding to the Tulsa area. It's called Taro Health and is part of the Affordable Care Act Health Exchange.

Taro Health is a licensed health insurance provider based in New York that is now expanding to Tulsa.

The company said patients can access health services with no copays through a network of doctors and hospitals that is already in place.

Taro Health leaders launched a trial program in Oklahoma last year and had around one thousand patients in Oklahoma City.

Frank Wu is the co-founder and CEO of Taro Health. He said starting next year, residents in Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Tulsa, and Wagoner counties can get insurance from Taro Health.

Wu said Taro’s plans include zero-dollar copays, access to primary care providers, and allow patients to join what’s called a ‘direct primary care practice,’ which Wu says helps doctors and patients build a better relationship.

“When people have access to care, they’re actually more engaged with their health, and they’ll end up being healthier as well,” Wu said. “We pair that with other things like fixed dollar copays for specialists, so you know exactly how much it’s gonna cost me to see a specialist. We have low deductibles and again always making sure people get the care they need so that they can stay healthy.”

Open enrollment officially starts on Nov. 1 and coverage would begin in 2025.
