Tim Reid, From WKRP In Cincinnati, Sister, Sister Brings One-Man Show To Tulsa

A TV legend with roles on shows like WKRP in Cincinnati, Simon and Simon and Sister, Sister, is in Tulsa for two nights only.

Tim Reid joined News On 6 to talk about his career and his new show, “Baby, If You Ever Wondered.”

When asked which show he’s most recognized for, Reid was quick to point out that recognition depends on the era.

“When you say millennial generation, it’s certainly Sister, Sister. You say the older Generation X and baby boomers, it’s WKRP in Cincinnati,” he said.

Reid’s career began in an era when opportunities for Black actors were slim, a stark contrast to today’s increasingly diverse TV industry.

“There weren’t that many Black people working in front of the camera; you could put us all in a van and drive us to an event,” said Reid. “So watching it and seeing what it's come to now, and I applaud some of the younger people who are creating, but it was a control situation.”

Shows like WKRP in Cincinnati didn’t just entertain; they tackled heavy issues that pushed boundaries, often sparking controversy.

“We were the first show on television to do anything about Vietnam veterans when they were coming home,” Reid said. He also pointed to a memorable episode about the tragic Who concert disaster in Cincinnati, which made waves within the network.

“And as a matter of fact, we rehearsed for four days before we were to shoot on Friday, and we couldn't … They would not say it's going on the air until they brought some citizens from Cincinnati, members of the citizen Council, and they viewed what we had done, and they said, OK, and that allowed us on the air the next week.”

Reid's new show, “Baby, If You Ever Wondered” will cover his career, including behind-the-scenes stories and the power of television. It will cover some of the challenges he faced while working in TV, as well as his successes. The show is on Friday and Saturday at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.

“We’re trying out our first one-man show, and we came to Tulsa,” he said. The show provides an intimate look into Reid’s career, mixing humor with behind-the-scenes insights. “A little behind-the-scenes story… We’re not naming names. Well, yeah, we are naming names. Why wouldn’t I not?”
