The Grand Grand Story Slam will be taking place at Cain's to determine Tulsa's best storyteller of the decade. This event will also serve as a fundraiser to support the storyteller workshops that organizers provide to the community.

The founder of Story Slam, Michelle Bias, and the reigning Tulsa best storyteller of 2023, Matthew Weatherbee, stopped by the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to share their excitement about the event.

Bias mentioned that the open mic event is held monthly and that the monthly winner competes in a Grand Slam, like Weatherbee did, for the title of Tulsa's best storyteller.

The competition is not only a celebration of a decade of Grand Slam winners but also a fundraiser to support the continuation of storytelling in the Tulsa community.

Weatherbee expressed his gratitude for the incredible experience of being recognized and shared his encouragement for others to explore storytelling. He highlighted the honor of sharing the stage with other talented storytellers at the event.

Storytelling workshops have also made a significant impact on the community. Bias revealed that the workshops, now conducted on Zoom on Tuesday nights, have helped individuals curate and craft their stories, making them more confident when sharing them on stage.

As for Friday night's performance, Weatherbee teased that he would be sharing a story from his adolescence, promising a captivating and memorable tale that resonates with many.

The event is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at Cain's and promises to be a night of great storytelling and a fantastic opportunity to support and celebrate the local storytelling community.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets start at $25.
