In a highly anticipated matchup, the Catoosa Indians defeated the Inola Longhorns 10-7 in a hard-fought game on Friday night.
This was the first meeting between the two teams in 31 years, making it a true "Battle of the Ports" as the schools are located in neighboring towns.
The game started off slowly, with neither team able to find the end zone in the first quarter. However, Inola struck first when Jenner Estes faked out the defense and the News On 6 camera with a read option. He takes it all the way to the endzone to put Longhorns on top 7-0.
Catoosa would respond, in the 4th down 7-3, Quarterback Brogan O'Neal rolled back and found senior Tanner Casey for a huge gain. On that same drive, O'Neal hit Seth Charles in the corner of the endzone to take the lead 10-7.
Inola had a chance to tie the game late, lining up for a long field goal attempt, but the kick fell short, sealing the victory for Catoosa.
"I'm proud of the way they fought," said Catoosa Head Coach Sal Guerrero. "They never gave up and played until the last second. Our defense was huge, coming up with turnovers when we needed them most."
The win gives Catoosa momentum heading into their district opener next week, while Inola will look to bounce back. This hard-fought Battle of the Ports is sure to be remembered for years to come.
