On Sept. 25, 1964, a dedication ceremony was held in Eufaula to celebrate the completion of the Eufaula Dam.

President Lyndon B. Johnson attended the event, emphasizing the project’s importance to the region.

The dam created Lake Eufaula, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world.

The project, which was approved by Congress in 1946, aimed to control flooding along the Canadian River and provide water supply, navigation, and hydroelectric power generation to the area.

Construction of the dam began in the 1950s, and its completion marked a significant achievement in the federal government’s efforts to improve infrastructure in the area.

The lake has since become a popular destination for recreational activities, including boating, fishing, and camping, attracting visitors from across the state and beyond.
