Wallabies, Goats, And More: Fairgoers Enjoy A Wild Time At Tulsa’s Petting Zoo

Families have been having a blast in the Great American Petting Zoo at the Tulsa State Fair this week. From llamas to goats and everything in between, there's no shortage of animals to see and interact with.

News On 6's Kristen Weaver caught up with Emilie Owen from the petting zoo to get a closer look at one of the stars of the show, Maple—a friendly, 11-month-old wallaby.

While Maple is certainly a highlight, she’s far from the only animal attracting attention. Owen explained that the zoo has a wide variety of animals, including different breeds of goats, sheep, and even fallow deer—two adults and two baby deer that have been a hit.

Additionally, there are pot-bellied pigs, one of which has "adopted" two piglets named Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice, adding a festive touch to the exhibit. Guests can also meet Ruby, a miniature cow, as well as a miniature donkey, llamas, and an alpaca.

The petting zoo offers a unique experience for both children and adults, especially for those who may not have had much exposure to animals. While some visitors are initially timid, the chance to interact with and even brush the animals tends to warm people up quickly. Owen mentioned that it’s heartwarming to see kids bond with the animals during their visits.

Keeping the animals and the environment clean is a priority for the Great American Petting Zoo. Owen noted that every day, before the fair opens, the zoo is thoroughly sanitized. From the bedding to the fencing, everything is cleaned, and the animals themselves are given a daily wipe-down to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for everyone.

The Great American Petting Zoo is located in the Super Duty Exhibit Hall and the hours are listed below.

1. Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
2. Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
3. Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
