The Army Black Knights used the ground game to come away with a 49-7 win over Tulsa at Chapman Stadium on Saturday. With the victory, Army improved to 5-0 and 4-0 in its first season in the AAC. Tulsa fell to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in conference play.
Despite leading the nation in rushing, it was Army's passing game that led to a 21-7 lead at halftime. Quarterback Bryson Daily had touchdown passes of 37 and 58 yards to Noah Short, as well as a 4-yard rushing touchdown of his own. Tulsa's lone touchdown came late in the 1st quarter on quarterback Cooper Legas' 1-yard run. Not only did the Black Knights have the lead on the scoreboard at halftime, they also held the advantage in total yardage: 212 to 176.
The Black Knights scored on four straight possessions in the 2nd half for the final score of 49-7. The Army defense held Tulsa to a season-low 268 yards of offense.
Starting Tulsa quarterback Kirk Francis completed 16-of-22 passes for 84 yards. Golden Hurricane receiver Kamdyn Benjamin had a team-high 7 catches for 44 yards.
Head coach Kevin Wilson met with the media following the game to break down the loss and look ahead to the bye week.
