'It's A Big Deal': Dream Keepers Park Set For Renovations With $3.6 Million Grant

A federal grant will help Dream Keepers Park honor Oklahoma's Native American tribes.

The park was renamed Dream Keepers Park in 2021 to celebrate and honor Native American culture and history. Park leaders say a new grant will help incorporate Native culture into the park.

Tulsa Recreation and Parks Director Anna America says the $3.6 million grant, provided through the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service, is designated for a city working exclusively with Native American tribes in Oklahoma.

America says several partners, including tribal organizations and the Greater Tulsa Area, are providing matching funds for the grant. The Indian Affairs Commission will continue fundraising efforts.

She says the park, located at 21st and South Boulder Ave., will include a trail, tribal gardens, a playground with Native American elements, a monument paying tribute to all Native American tribes, and an updated plaza for events.

“It’s really a big step forward in recognizing that we could, should, and will collaborate. Where we are standing now is Tulsa, but it is also tribal nation land. To be able to recognize that and work hand in hand to improve it for all of our citizens together is really, it’s a big deal," America said.

America says they hope to start renovations next year.
