First 18 Homes Of Eden Village In Place

The first 18 homes in a new Tulsa neighborhood are in place. The Eden Village development will have 63 homes reserved for people who have been chronically homeless.

A group of nine factory-built homes were lifted onto foundations, alongside another nine built on site, on slabs, for wheelchair access.

What now looks like an instant neighborhood came after years of planning.

“I'm not a developer by trade. If I and my team can pull this off, others can do it too, because we need more than one,” said Eden Village Tulsa co-founder Brad Johnson.

The neighborhood covers 17 acres, including 7 acres reserved for a small farm.

One of the first homes is reserved for Donald Schloup, who said he looked forward to having a physical address again, after several years living in a truck.

“I was born and raised in Tulsa and always had a place to live until I got into depression and lost my marriage, but I never lost my desire to just live in a wooden house and enjoy everything that offers.”

The homes are purchased with donations, which allows the residents to pay $350 a month for rent and utilities. More than 300 people applied for the first development in Tulsa.

“They need to be a good neighbor and good citizen just like you and I, so we've got 25 that are ready for these homes and hopefully in about 2 weeks if everything goes well they'll be moving in here and have their forever home,” said Johnson.
