Red Flag Warning Issued For Tulsa, Surrounding Counties As Fire Risk Increases

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Creek, Nowata, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Tulsa, and Washington counties as gusty southerly winds, low humidity, and ongoing drought conditions increase the risk of wildfires across the region.

A burn ban remains in place for 30 other counties in Oklahoma listed below.

The Tulsa Fire Department has responded to 65 grass fires and multiple structure fires over the past week, citing the dry grass, lack of rain, and high winds as ideal conditions for rapid fire spread.

Assistant fire marshals are enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for open burns during the burn ban. Violations could result in a fine of up to $1,200 and/or six months in jail.

Outdoor burning—including controlled burns, bonfires, fire pits, and chimineas—is prohibited under the burn ban. Grilling and welding over a non-flammable surface are allowed.
