The Oklahoma State Cowboys are still searching for their first Big 12 win of the 2024 season, after losing to BYU 38-35 in Provo on Friday night. The Pokes now set their sights on a road trip to Waco on Saturday. OSU has won 20 of the past 28 over Baylor, including a 36-25 win in the last game played in Waco in 2022, and eight of the 13 games played in Waco since the formation of the Big 12.
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy met with the media Monday in Stillwater to preview the upcoming game at Baylor.
Head Coach Mike Gundy
On the offensive performance against BYU:
“The offense exceeded expectations, in my opinion. They had an excellent gameplan and they carried it out. The players were very attentive in practice and practiced really well the last two weeks, and that’s the result they got.”
On Rodney Fields Jr.’s debut:
“He looked really good, but we’ve seen that. We’ve seen it since August with him. He has ability, but we don’t know because he’s never been in games. That environment we played in was as difficult of an environment that we’ve played in since I’ve been a coach here, and he just went out and played like it was no big deal.”
On the competitive nature of the team:
“If you’d have been at our practices the last two weeks, you would’ve thought we were 6-0. My job is to evaluate the coaches, the players and myself after every game. Our guys played a good football game. We had a good plan, the coaches did a good job in this game. Losing is not something we want, but my job is to evaluate the situation every week. From that standpoint, they were good.”
On Ollie Gordon II’s impact this season:
“He’s been great. We started out the year with really, really heavy boxes, difficult at times for him to run… The last four games, he’s run really hard. There’s been times that there’s not much there, and he’s just blowing through there. He’s jumping over people. I thought his effort the other day on fourth down was excellent. He’s been really good, and his attitude has been good.”
On Baylor:
"They're playing good. Baylor's a team that lost several games they had a chance to win. They got down a bunch to BYU and battled back. They certainly could have beat Colorado. They got behind by 17 against Utah and battled back. I don't even know how many games they've won, I haven't paid attention, but they could've won three more just based on what I've seen. The quarterback is playing better now and they're actually playing together.”
