The Tulsa Drillers will have a new manager in 2025, as Scott Hennessey will take the helm of the newly named Oklahoma City Comets, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Hennessey leaves the Drillers as one of the franchise's most successful managers, ranking second in all-time wins with 455, just 41 shy of Bobby Jones's record.
He revitalized the team mid-season in 2017, leading them to a 27-13 finish and their first of three consecutive Texas League Championship Series appearances. The Drillers won the league title in 2018, marking the franchise’s first championship in 20 years.
"I’ve had an incredible seven years with the Drillers," said Hennessey. "I’m grateful for the support from the fans and the organization."
Drillers President Mike Melega said, "Henny has been everything that you could ask for in a manager. He's been a true partner and a professional. Personally, I am proud to call him a friend. We will miss him in DrillVille, but at the same time, we could not be more excited for the opportunity ahead of him. He has earned it."
Hennessey, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 but is now cancer-free, and his wife Deanne have made Tulsa their home for several years.
“We’re excited for Scott, but we will certainly miss him here,” said Brian Carroll, Vice President of Media Relations and Baseball Operations. “Whether it was a big win or a difficult loss or a battle against cancer, Henny has been nothing but class during his years representing our team. We will miss him as our manager, but more importantly, we will miss him as a friend.”
The Drillers and Dodgers will announce Hennessey’s successor later this winter.
