People have been evacuated from their homes Tuesday because of a wildfire south of Pawhuska near the Osage County Fairgrounds.

This fire is still burning strong and has been for several hours. Lots of people told News On 6 that they are worried sick about their homes.

Those people can only wait and hope all the agencies working together will be able to keep the fire from taking their homes.

Agencies from all over the area are here, even some firefighters from Tulsa.

One man who lives nearby, but not in the path of the fire says he saw all the smoke and several planes flying low.

Pilots have been dumping water and fire retardant on the fire.

He says he’s never seen anything like this.

“I’ve lived here all my life, 64 years, and I have never seen anything intense like this,” said Thomas Kirk. “A fire like this. I know there are many, many, many homes up on that hill.”

As soon as News On 6 gets updates about damage we will let you know.
