Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum and Mayor-Elect Monroe Nichols held a news conference Thursday at City Hall to outline plans for the upcoming mayoral transition, which will happen on Dec. 2, when Nichols will be sworn in as Tulsa’s 41st mayor at 1:59 p.m.
The role of Tulsa’s mayor includes serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the city, overseeing approximately 4,000 employees and an annual budget of more than $1 billion. The position lasts for a four-year term.
Mayor Bynum, who was elected as Tulsa’s 40th mayor in 2016 and reelected in 2020, has prioritized efforts to enhance Tulsa’s competitiveness and quality of life. Nichols has emphasized his plan to address homelessness, improve student outcomes, and ensure Tulsa remains the safest big city. He spoke about his vision with News On 6 earlier this week.
