Foster Care Recruitment Event Held In Wagoner To Address Growing Need

Foster care specialists held a recruitment event for families in Wagoner Thursday night.

Foster care workers say more than 6,000 kids are in foster care in our state.

They say teens are especially vulnerable because they often get put in group homes instead of being paired with traditional families.

"We wanted to educate the public today about what it takes to become a foster parent, what the need is for our foster numbers so we have enough families that our kiddos are not having to wait for families," said Andrea Weaver, a Child Welfare Specialist.

Organizers say even if families can't take in kids themselves, they can still help by offering support to foster families.
