The Alzheimer's Association will host its annual Advocacy Day event on February 19 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Maggie Schaefer, Director of Public Policy for the Alzheimer's Association joined News 9 on the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to share more about the event.
The event provides an opportunity for advocates impacted by Alzheimer's and related dementias to share their stories with state legislators. Advocates include individuals living with the disease, current and former caregivers, and community members concerned about the impact of Alzheimer's in Oklahoma. "It's one of my favorite events we do because folks get to come up to the capitol and share their stories about how Alzheimer's and related dementias have impacted their lives with their elected officials," said Schaefer. "It's a very powerful event for those who have been impacted by the disease."
The event will feature a legislative panel, allowing advocates to hear directly from state lawmakers. Advocates will then have the opportunity to meet with their elected officials to share how Alzheimer's has affected them and their communities.
The Advocacy Day event is open to the public, and the Alzheimer's Association encourages anyone interested in the cause to attend. Those interested in attending the Advocacy Day event can register online at alz.org or contact the Alzheimer's Association's advocacy manager, Cameron Decker, at Cdecker@alz.org for more information.
