The incoming Trump administration is expected to hit the ground running with a series of executive orders and cabinet confirmations as the new president takes office.
According to Scott Mitchell, the Trump administration is eager to "spring into action" and begin signing executive orders immediately after the inauguration.
"So after the pomp and circumstance comes, getting down to business that's going to be really tough to cover," Mitchell said.
Alex Cameron echoed this sentiment, noting that Trump will likely get started "right away, signing executive orders."
Cameron said Congress is hoping Trump will hold off on certain executive orders that could have a monetary impact, allowing lawmakers to potentially include them in a reconciliation package to help offset costs.
"If these are things that will have a monetary impact, in other words, if they will potentially save money, Congress is hoping they'll let them do that, let them make that part of their reconciliation package that will help them do some of the cost offsetting that they need to do under the rules of reconciliation," Cameron explained.
The Senate is also expected to quickly move to confirm some of Trump's cabinet nominees who have already gone through confirmation hearings.
"I imagine we would see probably pretty quickly on Tuesday, some of his cabinet sworn in," Cameron said.
Cameron noted that the tone of Trump's inauguration is likely to be different from his first term, observing "there does seem to be a little bit more acceptance of him as a candidate this time around."
However, Cameron expressed curiosity about the messaging in Trump's inaugural address.
"I'm really curious to see what sort of a speech Trump delivers. You know, at the inauguration, whether he offers an olive branch, whether he tries to embrace all Americans. You know, he talked about American carnage eight years ago. So we'll see if it's a different tone this time around."
The incoming administration's actions in the coming days will set the stage for the next four years, with the media playing a crucial role in covering the developments.
