Shai Gilgeous-Alexander named 2025 NBA All-Star Starter

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named a 2025 NBA All-Star starter, the NBA announced Thursday.

This marks Gilgeous-Alexander's third career All-Star appearance and his second consecutive selection as a starter.

In 42 games this season, all starts, Gilgeous-Alexander is leading the league in scoring with 32.0 points per game, shooting 53.0% from the field. He is also contributing 5.4 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 2.10 steals, and 1.12 blocks per game, averaging 34.2 minutes on the court. He leads the league with 25 games of 30 or more points, including a career-high 54 points in the Thunder’s recent victory over the Utah Jazz.

Gilgeous-Alexander is on track to join Michael Jordan as the only player in NBA history to average at least 30 points on 50% shooting, with five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block in a season.

The 2024-25 season has been historic for both Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder. He has earned Western Conference Player of the Month honors for October/November and December, guiding Oklahoma City to a 36-7 record—the best start in team history. The Thunder has recorded a 15-game win streak and a current 12-game home win streak, leading the league in net rating (12.5), defensive rating (103.4), steals (11.47), deflections (22.1), and points off turnovers (23.6).

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is set for Feb. 16 at Chase Center in San Francisco. This year’s game will feature a new format: a mini-tournament with four teams and three games. Two teams will compete in each semifinal, with the winners advancing to a championship game. Each game will conclude when a team reaches or surpasses 40 points.
