A University of Arkansas student from Edmond, Oklahoma, died after falling from a balcony at an apartment complex near campus, the Fayetteville Police Department said.
Daniel Adin Hogue, 19, fell from a balcony at The Cardinal at West Center Apartments on Jan. 20, police said. Officers were notified of the incident just after 9 a.m. that morning, but investigators believe the fall occurred earlier.
Sgt. Stephen Mauk of the Fayetteville Police Department told CBS affiliate KFSM-TV that the investigation points to a "tragic accident," and there is no indication Hogue was with anyone else at the time. Toxicology results are pending, with no set timeline for their completion, Mauk said.
This was the second incident involving a balcony fall at the apartment complex within a week. On Jan. 14, an 18-year-old woman fell from a fifth-story balcony at the same location and sustained critical injuries.
University of Arkansas Media Relations and Core Communications Director John Thomas expressed the university's condolences following Hogue's death.
"We are saddened to report the passing of a University of Arkansas student this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends at this most difficult time," Thomas said. "We are reaching out to offer support and counseling to members of the university community who we know were connected to the deceased."
The Fayetteville Police Department is continuing its investigation.
