Pop music star Katy Perry announced a new concert tour across the United States on Monday, including a stop in Oklahoma City.
In a social media post, the star announced she will perform 25 concerts across the country, with Oklahoma City's concert on May 9 being the second stop on "The Lifetimes Tour."
Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt reacted to the news on social media, making several posts detailing the city's history in attracting top-performing artists.
Holt said out of the currently active top 75-grossing pop music artists, only five have never performed in Oklahoma City: Madonna, Celine Dion, Roger Waters, Depeche Mode, and Katy Perry.
However, with Monday's announcement, Holt said the city will narrow that list to four.
"Katy hasn’t toured in seven years, but every time I’ve had the chance, I’ve lobbied her to come to OKC for the first time," Holt said. " In November, I received the news from Katy herself, which we are able to share with you today… On Friday, May 9th, Katy Perry is bringing the Lifetimes Tour to Oklahoma City and performing here for the first time ever!"
Pre-sale tickets will go on sale Tuesday, Jan. 28, while all other tickets go on sale on Friday, Jan., 31.
