A Mustang neighborhood turned into a crime scene after a shooting became deadly.
Police identified the victim Monday as 71-year-old Michael Shadid.
The incident happened near South Mustang Road and State Highway 152 late Saturday afternoon, around 4 p.m. when Shadid was shot.
Police say the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, the 911 caller explained that he had shot a family member. There was reportedly an argument between two family members, who were both armed with weapons. The argument escalated to a single shot being fired inside the garage of the residence.
"There were two other individuals, a total of four in the home, but as far as I know, no one witnessed anything at this point," he said.
Residents describe the neighborhood as quiet, saying something like this is out of the ordinary. One person, who didn't want to go on camera, says the most they see in the area is a speeding car. Another neighbor said that Shadid was a friendly man who was always walking his dog.
"This does appear to be an isolated event. It does appear to be domestic in nature, not a common occurrence, especially in this neighborhood," Wallace said.
Preliminary findings indicate that the altercation involved multiple weapons, and the subject who fired may have been acting in self-defense.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation assisted with the scene at the time of the incident. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing. The case will be presented to the Canadian County District Attorney’s Office for review.
