In the heart of Oklahoma City's Paseo District, a new nonprofit is making waves with its commitment to creativity and sustainability. Project 612, a community education center, offers a variety of programs designed to bring people of all ages together.
"We're a community education center that focuses on creativity and sustainability education for people of all ages," said Amy, the founder of Project 612. "So we have an after-school program for 3 to 12-year-olds, community events that are free on first Fridays, and a couple of other community events like a potluck and a cake bake-off that's coming up in April."
Beyond arts and crafts, the center emphasizes hands-on learning, including gardening, cooking, and even caring for live chickens. "Well, that's the best part, is when the light bulb turns on," Amy said, describing the joy of watching young learners discover new passions.
One of Project 612’s upcoming free community events is a live music night featuring the bands Stepmom and Yasmin, set for next Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at 612 Northwest 29th Street. Whether inside or outside on their stage, the event promises a vibrant showcase of local talent.
