OKLAHOMA CITY -- A metro father is safe at home with his daughter after a close call with a car crash. The other driver took off, and the whole thing was caught on camera.
Crash scenes can be chaotic for everyone involved, but anyone who drives away from a crash faces severe consequences. This family has searched for accountability for the person responsible. The crash happened on Tuesday along Spencer Road outside OKC and Midwest City.
“We’re gonna constantly be thinking about this for a little bit,” said Whitlee Kirkendoll, Tremell Davis’s girlfriend, who was involved in the crash.
Dashcam video from a Spencer school bus revealed the crash and the driver leaving the scene without checking on Davis.
“Kinda put me in shock that they would do something like that,” Davis said. “That’s just not right.”
Kirkendoll said the bus driver stopped and checked on Davis after the crash.
“We have good people out here,” Kirkendoll said.
The bus dashcam showed the driver of a red Lincoln MKX getting out of the car and pausing for several seconds. Moments later, the driver walked out of the frame, and a different driver from another vehicle came into the frame of the video.
“They switched cars,” Davis said. “They didn’t even say nothing.”
After the two drivers had switched vehicles, the dashcam video showed them both driving away.
“It’s very careless, you know,” Kirkendoll said.
In Oklahoma, driving away from a crash is a felony punishable with prison time and thousands of dollars in fines.
“I believe in karma and karma’s gonna get ‘em,” Davis said.
Kirkendoll said their experience drives home a lesson.
“Be mindful of everybody, pay attention to the roads,” Kirkendoll said. “A car can be replaced, but a life cannot.”
Davis said his eyes remain on the road ahead as his family moves forward.
“I’m feeling okay, and I'm glad our daughter wasn’t in there, and I was able to walk away from it, so, it’s okay,” Davis said.
Anyone with information about the crash can contact the Spencer Police Department.
