As a freshman at Mount St. Mary High School, Jack Robison, inspires everyone he comes in contact with. Jack has Down Syndrome, but he takes all regular classes right alongside his peers.
With Down Syndrome Jack has a student assistant, but he is completely focused on his schoolwork.
“He got one ‘B’ last semester. He got all A’s and one B, said Jack’s mother Lisa Robison.
When Jack isn’t killing it in the classroom, he’s killing it on the basketball court. Clearly the star of his freshman team.
“Jack loves basketball, it’s like a second nature to him,” said Antonio 'Coach Tone' Arnold, Mount St. Mary freshman basketball coach
But initially the coaches really weren’t sure what to expect.
“Does he want to be a manager, and I said no, he doesn’t want to be a manager he wants to be on the team, and he said OK, let’s do it,” said Robison.
“He walked in the gym confident, ready to be a part of the Mount St. Mary’s basketball team,” Arnold said.
It’s a confidence that comes from the work that Jack put in every day. So as the freshman season came to an end, there was really only one way to put this season in the books.
“We put him in, and he did his little famous two dribbles, nothing but net, “swish”” Arnold said.
An almost carbon copy of the way his favorite player does it.
“LeBron, LeBron James,” said Jack Robison.
The shot was not a surprise to his family, his team or his coaches.
“See for us, we’re used to seeing him do that,” said Robison.
“No, I’ve seen Jack make that shot plenty of times,” said Arnold.
With the famous season ending shot in the books, that celebration is over, and Jack has now moved on to golf.
