An Oklahoma County jury is hearing the case of an Oklahoma City mother suing a police officer and the city for the shooting of her 14-year-old son.

In 2019, officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were called to a reported break-in at an abandoned home near Southeast 59th Street and South Bryant Avenue.

Court records show one of those responding officers, Sgt. Kyle Holcomb, shot 14-year-old Lorenzeo Clerkley Jr. four times through a fence after Holcomb said he thought the teen was armed.

Clerkley survived the shooting, and his mother, Cherelle Lee, claims Holcomb did not give her son enough time to respond to his commands before firing.

In a federal lawsuit, Clerkley's mother, Cherelle Lee, claims her son was not a threat and was not holding a gun or anything else before he was shot.

The lawsuit is asking for at least $75,000 in damages.
