The Edmond North High School community is mourning the loss of senior volleyball player, Maddie Hayes, who died from injuries in an ATV accident on Monday.

"We are devastated by the loss..."

In a post on the school’s volleyball Facebook page, the team described Hayes as “an incredibly bright student, genuine friend, talented athlete, hilarious soul, and a difference maker on/off the court.”

Edmond North Principal Reacts

Edmond North’s principal, Dandy Peeler, sent a letter to parents on Tuesday, sharing news of an accident involving a senior student.

“Our hearts are with our student’s family as they grieve this unfathomable loss," Peeler said. "As a parent, I cannot imagine what they are going through and I know our Husky Family stands with them during this difficult time.”

According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened Monday night on private property near Sorghum Mill Road and Meridian Avenue.

District and Community Provide Help

The district told parents it would have additional counselors this week if students needed someone to talk to about the loss.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family with funeral costs. More than $33,000 has been raised as of Wednesday evening.
