The Oklahoma City Public Safety Partnership is hosting informational sessions across different city wards to educate residents about its role in the community and to gather feedback from residents.

Q: What is the Community Public Safety Advisory Board?

The Community Public Safety Advisory Board is an independent board established with recommendations that were received by the Council in March of 2022. This board reviews the complaint investigative process for public safety officials here in Oklahoma City.

Q: How many events are being held?

This is the second since the inception of the board. So we had one event last year. This is our first event. It's in Ward 6. We'll have events throughout the year for each ward.

Q: What kind of questions do you generally hear?

There was a report received in March of 2022 by the council that had 39 recommendations to enhance public safety here in Oklahoma City. This board answers four of those recommendations. The work of the Public Safety Advisory Board is to review already closed cases. of it could be, I'm so sorry, excessive force, in custody deaths, the complaint process itself. So we can investigate, I'm sorry, we don't investigate, we review those cases after they're closed.

Q: What kind of feedback do you get from the community?

The feedback that we get is great. People mostly don't know about the board quite yet. That's why we're doing these info sessions. We want our residents to know that this board exists. And like I said, it's really important to understand that the board itself is made up of residents. The board is established and nominated by our council members from each board. So, each of them has a board member on the board. And then the mayor also nominates the chair. So the chair is assigned by the mayor, and each ward has a member.

Q: Is there a process to register for attendance?

No, registration is not required. There is a process. You can go to OKC.gov and go to our Public Safety Partnership webpage and register, but registration is not required.
