Allergy season is upon the Sooner state, and many are suffering from allergy symptoms as the plants and trees begin to pollinate. Dr. Lacy Anderson offers various over-the-counter solutions to combat seasonal allergies.
As a first-line treatment for allergy symptoms, News 9's Dr. Lacy Anderson recommends daily non-drowsy antihistamines like Claritin, Allegra, or Zyrtec. For itchy eyes it is recommended to use antihistamine eye drops such as Pataday.
For alleviating congestion caused by allergies, steroid-based nasal sprays such as Flonase and Nasonex, or antihistamine-based sprays like Astalyn are ideal.
If antihistamines alone aren't sufficient to relieve symptoms, a doctor may be able to prescribe Singulair, which works differently from antihistamines. If multiple medications aren't enough, a short burst of steroids may provide temporary symptomatic relief.
