It’s spring, which means it’s the perfect time to explore the great outdoors and there are so many trails in Oklahoma that I’ve enjoyed over the past year.
For me, trail running provides an opportunity to spend time outdoors and enjoy quality time with my sons. However, it offers numerous benefits, including improved physical fitness, enhanced mental well-being, increased endurance, and the opportunity to connect with nature.
I’m going to give you my top 5 trails around the state, which vary in distance and difficulty. If running isn’t your thing, they are also great for a scenic hike.
Check out some of these and challenge yourself this spring!
Bobbie’s Top 5 OK Trails:
Lake McMurtry – Stillwater, OK
Beginner-friendly trails that are perfect for hiking and mountain biking. I’ll be running this race again in April, but I highly recommend visiting anytime.
Lake Thunderbird – Norman, OK
Easy, wooded trails with scenic views of the lake. It reminds me of Arcadia Lake in Edmond.
Robbers Cave – Wilburton, OK
This is by far the most technical trail I’ve tackled. It’s more time-consuming but offers miles of trails to explore. You won’t get bored!
Roman Nose – Watonga, OK
Rolling hills and several trails to choose from. Be sure to stop and take pictures! It’s a state park with a nearby lodge, perfect for a stay if you have time.
Osage Hills State Park – Pawhuska, OK
You may recognize it from Killers of the Flower Moon. It’s stunning and rich with Native American history. The trails are technical but fun to navigate.
