In today's Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch, the crew chats with Loveworks Leadership about their first annual Cookiefest, who's work goes towards supporting afterschool programs for middle school students.

The free event will begin Saturday March 29 at 11 a.m. at The Well in Norman. They will also have a musical performance by One-man-band Mike Hosty at 12 p.m.

Executive Director Carolyn Spitler explains how providing leadership, life skills and community service builds character for many students. "We actually do all of our programs free of charge to all students," Spitler said. "We work will all middle schools in Norman, but anyone who can come to Loveworks is absolutely welcome."

Loveworks Volunteer Daniela Cooper Marr expressed how the organization wants to channel the student's free time for them to find their passions and explore their interests.

"Cookiefest is a big bake sale, benefitting Loveworks," she said. "We have professional, amateur and youth bakers. All of our youth bakers are Loveworks students. They get to sell things that benefit themselves and work on their entrepreneurship skills."

It being the first ever Cookiefest for the organization, Spitler emphasized the importance of including everyone for the experience. "Our big goal with this particular fundraiser is that we wanted everyone to be a part of it," Spitler said. "Whether it's our students or their families, and the entire public. I mean who doesn't love cookies?"

Marr also mentioned a few of the partnerships that will be providing even more baked goods for the event. "Grey Owl, Midway, La Baguette, and Esther and Blue-Eyed Baker, just a wonderful group of local Norman bakers," she said.
