Herman Meinders, OCU trustee, businessman and philanthropist, dies at 87

Herman Meinders, who served on the Oklahoma City University board of trustees and founded the international florist company American Floral Services, died on Sunday. He was 87.

Herman Meinders, founder of the international florist company American Floral Services, has died. He was 87.

Born in Minnesota in 1937, Meinders attended Oklahoma City University in the 1950s and, since then, has continued to show his support for his alma mater.

Meinder funded the university's School of Business and served on the board of trustees.

In a statement, OCU President Kenneth Evans shared his condolences.

"No person can equal the impact and influence that Herman Meinders has bestowed on the Oklahoma City University campus," Evans said.

Meinders was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1998.

According to Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, a celebration of life for Meinders will be held at Crossings Community Church on Friday, April 4. The service is set to begin at 2 p.m.
