A 17-year-old student from Putnam City High School is recovering after she was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident Wednesday afternoon near NW 122nd Street and MacArthur Boulevard, according to Oklahoma City police.

Authorities say the girl had just gotten off her school bus and was crossing the street when she was hit. The driver did not stop and fled the scene, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Oklahoma City Police Department.

The student was taken to the hospital with road rash injuries and is now recovering, according to her mother, Lauren McFarland, who is publicly asking for help in identifying the driver.

In a Facebook post, McFarland said her daughter was hit around 3:43 p.m. on April 9, near the entrance of the Cimarron Run neighborhood, directly across from The Warrington Apartments. McFarland says the incident occurred just moments after the girl had exited Bus 59 from Putnam City Schools.

McFarland alleges the driver was a man with dark hair, approximately 40 years old, driving a silver Lexus SUV. McFarland said he appeared to be speeding, stopped briefly after hitting her daughter, and then sped away, leaving the teenager injured in the middle of the street.

“She said they came out of nowhere and were speeding,” McFarland wrote. “My daughter is a child that is a victim of a hit and run.”

A police report has been filed, and McFarland said the family is offering a reward for information that leads to identifying and arresting the suspect. She is encouraging anyone with tips to call Oklahoma City police.

Police have not yet confirmed any suspect details publicly but are continuing to investigate.
