Two people were hospitalized early Sunday morning after a violent crash involving a pickup truck and a tow truck in southwest Oklahoma City.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Southwest 44th Street and Rancho Drive. According to police, a white pickup truck ran a stop sign and slammed into a tow truck, causing it to burst into flames.

Gasoline spilled across the roadway, fueling the fire and complicating cleanup efforts. One witness, Paul Scott told News 9 he tried to assist the driver but was advised not to move him due to the severity of the crash.

“I don't know how he got underneath that thing, but he was pinned,” Scott said. “It was a big fireball for about 20 minutes.”

Authorities say both drivers were taken to the hospital, though their conditions have not been released. Police are urging drivers to avoid the area as crews continue to clean up spilled fuel.
