Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III held a press conference Tuesday afternoon announcing the arrest of six individuals, including 23-year-old Kadarryus Caples, tied to a violent kidnapping and robbery near Edmond in 2024.
According to a press release from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office, the arrests follow a months-long investigation into the June 14, 2024, incident, in which a woman was forcibly taken at gunpoint from the parking lot of a coffee shop near 178th Street and North MacArthur Boulevard.
According to investigators, the suspects beat and choked the woman until she was unconscious, robbed her of $250,000 in cash, and forced her to send $10,000 to one of her captors via CashApp.
After the attack, authorities say the victim was released in southwest Oklahoma City, prompting the issuance of a Kasey Alert that was later canceled once she was found and evaluated by EMSA.
FBI, local law enforcement, and forensic investigators aided in the investigation. Authorities say that photos taken from the victim’s Tesla and later social media activity played a key role in identifying at least one of the suspects.
Sheriff Johnson emphasized that the incident was not random and that the public was not in danger.
