ODOT tells drivers to plan ahead for upcoming I-35 closure

Southbound I-35 between East Wilshire Boulevard and Northeast 50th Street is set to close on weekends starting May 2 due to construction. Here are some alternative routes.

OKLAHOMA CITY -

Starting May 2, all southbound lanes of Interstate 35 between East Wilshire Boulevard and Northeast 50th Street will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

The Department of Transportation says the closure is for ongoing construction in the area.

All southbound traffic will be diverted onto westbound Interstate 44. Drivers can also use southbound Interstate 235 to access I-35 or Interstate 40. Northbound I-35 will remain open during this work.

Motorists should expect backups and delays in the area.
